What does concreting cost in Albury?

Published 2026 price ranges for driveways, slabs, decorative finishes and removal, what pushes an Albury concreting quote up, and how to compare quotes.

Published Australian guides put plain or reinforced concrete at $80 to $135 per sqm and exposed aggregate at $125 to $160 per sqm. Removing an old driveway adds $100 to $120 per sqm. These are national figures, so an Albury or Wodonga quote can land outside them once access, slope, removal and approvals are counted.

This page collects the ranges used across the site, with their sources, so you have something to measure quotes against. Albury Concreting is a referral service and does not set prices: the independent provider who inspects your job writes the quote.

Note that hipages’ January driveway figure for plain concrete sits lower than its September concreting figure, so treat any single band as a rough guide. None of these are Albury rates. They are national averages that do not account for local travel, supply or demand.

What pushes a concreting quote up or down?

  1. Area. Small jobs cost more per square metre because the truck, the pump and the finishing team cost much the same for a short path as for a double driveway.
  2. Finish. Coloured, exposed aggregate and stencilled work need more materials, more labour and tighter timing than a plain broom finish.
  3. Removal. Breaking out, carting and disposing of an old slab is a separate cost, and thick reinforced concrete takes longer.
  4. Ground. Soft spots, old fill, tree roots and reactive clay can mean digging deeper or adding more base.
  5. Slope and levels. A steep driveway needs more formwork, careful falls and sometimes steps or edge walls.
  6. Access. If the truck cannot reach the pour, the concrete has to be pumped or barrowed.
  7. Thickness and steel. A driveway that carries a caravan or a heavy vehicle needs a thicker slab and more reinforcement.
  8. Approvals and street work. Rebuilding the crossing and kerb adds labour, and council fees and bonds sit on top.

The service pages go into the detail for each job: concrete driveways, shed and garage slabs, paths and patios and concrete removal.

What should a quote include, and what is often left out?

Usually included Often extra or excluded
Excavation to the design depth Removal and disposal of old concrete
Crushed rock base, compacted Extra base where soft ground is found
Formwork, reinforcement and concrete Pump hire where the truck cannot reach
Finishing and control joints Sealing a decorative slab
Clean-up of the work area Council crossing application, fees and bonds
GST, if the provider is registered for it Engineering drawings for sheds or house slabs

Council fees are not shown as figures on this site because they can change from year to year. Check the current amounts with AlburyCity for Albury jobs, or on the City of Wodonga page for a road reserve works permit.

How do you compare quotes fairly?

Ask every provider to quote the same scope, in writing, with these points spelled out:

  • the area in square metres and the finish
  • the slab thickness and the type of reinforcement
  • the base material and its depth
  • whether removal, disposal and the crossing are included
  • where the control joints will go
  • who lodges the council application
  • how long the slab must stay clear of cars and foot traffic
  • the deposit and the progress payments

A quote that is much cheaper than the others often leaves something out, such as a thinner base, no reinforcement or no allowance for disposal. A quote that is much dearer may include work the others skipped. Line them up item by item before deciding.

Which rules affect the price?

NSW (Albury, Thurgoona, Lavington). A licensed concreter is needed for work over 5,000 dollars including GST, and the same threshold triggers a written contract. NSW’s guide to residential building contracts says the deposit can be no more than 10 percent. Over 20,000 dollars, a larger contract with a five business day cooling-off period applies, and Home Building Compensation cover must be in place before any payment.

Victoria (Wodonga, Baranduda). Registration with the Building and Plumbing Commission applies to work worth more than 10,000 dollars, and Home Warranty insurance to work worth more than 20,000 dollars from 1 July 2026. Insurance and compliance costs are built into a provider’s price.

Red flags in a concreting quote

  • No licence number on a NSW quote, or no registration details on a larger Victorian one.
  • A request for a deposit above 10 percent, or cash only with no written contract.
  • No mention of the base, reinforcement or thickness.
  • A crossing included with no word about council approval.
  • A price per square metre with no total, or a total with no area.
  • Pressure to sign the same day.
  • Home Building Compensation cover missing on a NSW job above 20,000 dollars.

Frequently asked questions

Are the prices on this site Albury quotes?

No. They are published national ranges from hipages and Yellow Pages, shown with their dates. Local quotes can be higher or lower depending on the job.

Is GST included in concreting prices?

Ask each provider. Quotes should state whether GST is included, and the NSW licence and contract thresholds are measured including GST.

Why is a small path so expensive per square metre?

Fixed costs such as the truck, the pump and the time to set up and finish are spread over fewer square metres. Combining jobs can bring the rate down.

How much deposit can a NSW concreter ask for?

For residential building work under a NSW contract, the maximum deposit is 10 percent of the contract price.

Are council fees included in a concreting quote?

Sometimes. Ask whether the crossing application, fees and any bond are in the price or billed separately.
